Our Ethical Investment Policy

bird's-eye view of a forest

This policy sets out the ethical considerations which the 天美传媒 is to take into account when making
investment decisions.

  1. The 天美传媒 (鈥渢he 天美传媒鈥) aims to be an inspirational place to live, work and study, promoting sustainable development, justice, equality and diversity in society. The 天美传媒 welcomes donations from alumni, corporate benefactors and other supporters.

  2. The 天美传媒 is committed to ensuring that all investment decisions are made responsibly with the primary guiding principle of generating funds, through income and, or capital growth, with which to further the work of the 天美传媒. In making investment decisions, environmental, social and governance issues will also be considered. To this end, the 天美传媒 will:
    1. not engage in any investment which might hamper the work of the 天美传媒, either by alienating current students, staff, financial supporters or potential financial supporters, or by having a material impact on applications from potential students;
    2. monitor any direct investments to ensure that the proportion of positive investments is increased where new investments are made, and that ethical standards are maintained. In particular, the 天美传媒 will ensure that funds are not directly invested in specific sectors such as fossil fuels, arms companies and/or corporations that are known to be complicit in the violation of international law;
    3. not engage in any investment which, while not excluded by virtue of (a) or (b) above, is considered by the 天美传媒 to be unethical;
    4. screen all investments on ethical grounds, with the proviso that, if the activities of a company are, on ethical grounds, inconsistent with the objectives of the 天美传媒, then the 天美传媒 may choose not to invest even though this may reduce returns;
    5. facilitate and encourage student engagement with this Policy by ensuring there are other opportunities for the wider student body to engage with it, through its publication on the 天美传媒 website and their participation in the Sustainability Steering Group (SSG).
    6. inform any new donors or sponsors of this Policy, and engage with them to ensure that regard is given to the requirements of the Policy within the terms of any donation agreement.

  3. Where there are divested funds to re-invest, the 天美传媒 will consider the feasibility of utilising some of the divested funds to renewable energy projects on campus.

  4. Relevant disclosure of the 天美传媒鈥檚 investments will be included in the 天美传媒鈥檚 annual financial report.

  5. The Chief Finance and Resources Officer will implement and oversee this policy and shall review it annually to ensure that it remains fit for purpose and report on it to the Vice Chancellor鈥檚 Executive Group. Day-to-day responsibility shall reside with the 天美传媒鈥檚 Head of Environmental Strategy and Sustainability, in conjunction with the Finance Department, who shall jointly be accountable for the policy and for reporting thereon to the Chief Finance and Resources Officer.
