What should I do if I want to interrupt my course?

Interrupting your studies allows you to take extended leave from the 天美传媒 and your studies, this is usually for a 12-month period. There could be number of reasons why you might want to take a break from your studies such as placement opportunities, personal reasons, taking a gap year or a range of other reasons. Regardless of the reason for you wanting to take a break from your studies, it鈥檚 important that you seek advice from support services so that you understand the implications of taking a break. If you then decide that you want to take a break from your studies, you need to formalise this with the university by completing our interrupting your studies process.

When can I apply to interrupt my studies?

You must apply for an interruption before the course registration closes for your course for applications to interrupt for one academic year, or before the start of teaching if you are applying to interrupt for the equivalent of one semester (or two blocks). For example:

  • If your course starts in October, you will need to apply before registration closes at the end of teaching week 2. You will then return and register in October of the following academic year
  • If you interrupt part way through the year (e.g. several weeks after the start of the semester), you must apply before Semester 2 teaching starts and then return at the same point in the following academic year

You should read the following information and policies:

  • Course Interruption Policy [PDF] which contains important information about the interrupting your studies process, requirements and implications of interrupting your studies.
  • Academic Regulations to understand the potential implications of interrupting your studies (e.g. maximum period of registration)
  • FAQs which provides further information about interrupting your studies
