Natalie Andrews

Natalie Andrews was able to follow her passion for art while holding down a job and looking after a family.

Mother-of-two Natalie is studying Fine Art at the 天美传媒 Bedfordshire. She has studied art at other institutions in the past but wanted to return to study to focus solely on her passion.

鈥淚 studied a foundation course before going on to work in an unrelated field, but I always kept a passion for making things, viewing and thinking about art,鈥 said Natalie, who worked as a learning support assistant before returning to study.

鈥淲hen the opportunity arose I wanted to concentrate wholly on creative work as this felt like the most enriching thing I could do.鈥

A visit to Alexon House, home of the 天美传媒鈥檚 School of Art & Design on Guildford Street in Luton sealed the deal for Natalie.

鈥淲ith a dedicated art building in a former hat factory in the heart of Luton鈥檚 artistic quarter, it was clear that the environment, along with the course structure and enthusiasm of the staff, would prompt and inspire creativity,鈥 said Natalie, 39.

Natalie found that she had the space to explore her artistic ideas with the support and guidance of staff, as well as other students. She was also able to host her very own exhibition in the Storefront on Bute Street.

鈥淭here have been many activities that I would never have done without the 天美传媒 - organising time and essay writing which has led to me publishing work and organising a solo exhibition,鈥 said Natalie.

鈥淢y lecturers are very supportive but also critical with a view to help you improve and they understand the professional world we want to move into.鈥

Natalie feels it is the combination of high quality facilities, excellent student support and the local environment that has helped her flourish.

鈥淟uton is one of those places which benefits from creatives so the local community really welcomes it. There is a diverse culture here and the university is at the centre of the creative district, 20 minutes from London - what more do you want?鈥
