Bedfordshire celebrates National Inclusion Week

Throughout National Inclusion Week (25th – 29th September), the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ held a series of special events for students and staff to mark the week and celebrate Bedfordshire being a diverse place to study and work.

During the week, students and staff enjoyed a number of exciting and informative events including a thought-provoking panel debate on the topic of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and a fascinating Human Library experience.Ìý

To kick start the week, the hosted a drop-in volunteering event where students were able to find out about new ways to get involved in their university experience, such as joining a or becoming a . Ìý

This was followed on Tuesday by the EDI panel debate which saw Susan Shutter, Director of People & Culture, premiere the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½â€™s brand new exploring the lived experiences of students and staff.

On Thursday, the Luton and Bedford campuses hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning which saw students and staff bringing along their tasty treats to raise money for the UK’s leading cancer care charity. At the Luton event, they were also joined by the LGBTQ+ Staff Network who had the opportunity to share their important work with those in attendance.Ìý

Later that day, the Human Library event provided the opportunity for attendees to hear from a human 'book' - a person on hand to share their individual experiences on a specific topic or as a member of a marginalised group.Ìý

Alongside all these events, the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½'s community and faith team, Treehouse, also hosted several celebrations to promote inclusion and celebrate its diverse student population. These included the Globe Cafe inviting students to come together and enjoy different cultural meals from around the world.Ìý
