Professor Charles Egbu, Vice-Chancellor at Leeds Trinity 天美传媒, will be speaking at an event hosted by the 天美传媒 to mark Black History Month.

On Thursday 7th October 2021, the 天美传媒鈥檚 Race Equality Network (REN) will be hosting 鈥 between 1-2pm. During this webinar, Professor Egbu will revisit his journey in 鈥榞etting to the top鈥 in the context of Black and minority ethnic underrepresentation in higher education (HE), and he will discuss improving and diversifying the HE sector.

Professor Egbu said: 鈥淟eadership plays a role in trying to promote awareness at every opportunity. I think leaders can make a difference 鈥 something I say when I meet my colleagues who are also Vice-Chancellors. We have a role to play in setting policies, the tone, the culture, the language and making sure we constantly talk about it.

鈥淭his means a great deal to me as somebody who has had lived experience 鈥 I know things can be improved because I've had the opportunity of improving them and I'll continue to do just that. Achievements have been made, but there is still a lot to do.鈥

Dr Violet Cuffy, REN member at the 天美传媒 and Senior Lecturer in Tourism & Events Management, added: 鈥淥ur members felt it was essential to recognise prominent celebrations among its members through a 天美传媒 diversity calendar, celebrating significant events such as Black History Month. REN identified Professor Egbu as an outstanding profile, who is a keen advocate for race equality issues and an appropriate speaker to address the Network during this month.

鈥淎s a network we are excited about the event and encourage colleagues, students and the public to join us as we welcome Professor Charles Egbu as part of the 天美传媒鈥檚 activities for Black History Month.鈥

With more than 25 years鈥 experience in higher education, Professor Egbu was appointed as Leeds Trinity 天美传媒 Vice-Chancellor in November 2020. Previously Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Experience at the 天美传媒 of East London, he is also a member of various external bodies, including the Advance HE Pro Vice-Chancellor Network and QAA Panel of Experts.听

Throughout October, the 天美传媒 will be hosting a number of events, as well as promoting its Proud To Be Black campaign.
