Fantastic SubjectsThe Universities of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Northampton are taking part in an Aspire Higher event on 25th February, conjured up to inspire local school pupils interested in higher education.

‘’ aims to help Year 10 and 11 pupils understand the wide range of interesting subjects available at university through video content, animations, interviews and presentations from higher education staff and students.

The event is free and takes place on Thursday 25th February between 4pm and 7pm. Contributions will come from all three of Aspire Higher’s collaborative institutions – the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ of Hertfordshire and the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ of Northampton.

The last Aspire Higher event, held in November 2020, attracted over 250 attendees and Colleen Galley, The Aspire Higher Hub Outreach Officer for the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½, hopes that ‘Fantastic Subjects’ will be another success. She said:

"This online event aims to be fun and informative with current students and staff talking about the wide range of fantastic subjects at university.

"In fact, we had so many academics, alumni and university students offer to take part in this event that we decided to extend our evening by an extra half hour than what we originally planned.

"The event is suitable for school pupils whether they are considering university or not – there will be something for everyone. Students and their parents or carers can even get their questions answered by those teaching and studying at university through a live chat function.

"I hope the event attracts another great turnout and I can’t wait to see the local pupils interacting with the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½â€™s staff and students."

Bedfordshire academics who will be taking part in the event include:

  • Dr. Nenadi Adamu – Senior Lecturer – Applied Social Studies
  • Kristy Horton – Lecturer – Forensic Psychology
  • Dr. Jaya Ghosh – Lecturer – Criminology
  • Jonathan South – Course Coordinator / Senior Lecturer – Professional Policing
  • Roma-Joy Thomas – Senior Lecturer – Applied Social Studies
  • Peader Kirk – Course Coordinator / Senior Lecturer – Acting
