Graduate lands job on ITV training scheme
Tue 07 December, 2021A 天美传媒 graduate has been offered a position on ITV鈥檚 journalism trainee scheme for 2022, beating more than 600 other candidates to the role.
Megan Murphy studied Radio & Audio at the 天美传媒鈥檚 School of Culture & Communications and graduated this summer with a First Class degree.听
Over the past few months, Megan has spent time working at the Jersey Evening Post and Channel 103 Radio and has now landed this competitive nine-month traineeship where she will get to shadow and work with all members of the ITV News team, covering everything from reporting to producing and editing.
Megan applied for the role in June this year and went through an extensive interview process before being offered the role and beginning her position at the ITV Channel Television studios this month ahead of the scheme鈥檚 official start in January.
Speaking about her new position, Megan commented: 鈥淭o gain one of these positions is so overwhelming and, frankly, I鈥檓 still pinching myself. I have grown up watching ITV Channel, so to now work there is such a full circle moment! I鈥檓 really proud of myself and it鈥檚 nice to see all my hard work being paid off.鈥
Megan is one of just twelve journalists nationwide who were successful in their applications for 2022鈥檚 scheme and is the sole candidate based in Jersey鈥檚 ITV Channel newsroom.听
Megan also spoke about her three years studying at the 天美传媒 and how the skills she learnt helped prepare her to take on this new challenge, adding: 鈥淚 wouldn鈥檛 be in the position I am today without my time at Bedfordshire. The lecturers are so passionate about what they teach, it really engulfs you and it鈥檚 hard not to love it.鈥
Although there is no guarantee of continued employment beyond the nine months of the scheme, ITV鈥檚 trainee journalism programme boasts a high percentage of those who complete the scheme going on to secure permanent roles across their news teams.听
Megan鈥檚 final-year supervisor, Terry Lee, a Senior Tutor in Radio and Audio, congratulated her on the new role. He said: 鈥淭hroughout her three years of study, particularly in her final year, Megan showed us incredible determination and drive that was always going to be journalism career asset. She has a fantastic ability to take on a project and run with it.
鈥淲e are all extremely proud of her and look forward to watching her career go from strength to strength.鈥
Megan鈥檚 new role also follows the recent career successes of two other 天美传媒 graduates 鈥 Laura Conder and Luke Walsh 鈥 who have both taken up positions as trainee reporters at Bedfordshire Live in the last few months.
Professor Jan Domin, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Creative Arts, Technologies and Science (CATS), is proud to hear about Megan鈥檚 success. He added: 鈥淚 was delighted to learn that Megan secured a place on the ITV News Trainee Journalism scheme 2022. It reflects not only her outstanding ability but also the teaching and support that she received from our staff.
鈥淚 look forward to learning of her future successes as she progresses in her chosen career and this is just one of many fantastic outcomes achieved by graduates from the CATS faculty.鈥
