A second year 天美传媒 student has shared her experience of the Clearing process, to show others it isn鈥檛 as scary as it might seem.

The 天美传媒鈥檚 Clearing campaign is in full swing, channelling the 鈥楧efy Expectations鈥 theme to show prospective students that joining through Clearing is a positive and empowering choice.

Business School student and Bedfordshire Bulls Cheerleader, Janel Grant, explained: 鈥淚 was originally studying at a different university. After a year, I wanted to change my course as I decided that it wasn鈥檛 for me. I spoke to my parents and after doing some research, I decided that my best option was to move to another university.鈥

About her Clearing experience, Janel said: 鈥淥nce the 天美传媒鈥檚 Clearing lines were open, I called and explained my situation and what course I wanted to do. The operator was very helpful and ensured I got the information I needed.鈥

With A Level results day coming around on the 10th of August, the 天美传媒 is sharing stories of students and graduates who found their place at Beds through Clearing. Read on to find out how Janel鈥檚 experience helped her focus on her mental health and find the right course for her to study鈥

My name is Janel Grant and I am 22, from Luton in Bedfordshire. I am a second year BSc Business Studies with Marketing student.

I was originally studying at a different university on a different course. After a year, I wanted to change my course as I decided that it wasn鈥檛 for me and I found it difficult to get a good standard of work submitted. As the course I was studying included a foundation year, it meant that with the framework the university had in place, I would have had to re-do the year again, making my course five years long (instead of four). After talking to my parents and doing some research, I decided that my best option was to move to another university.

As Clearing had already started when I arrived at my decision to move, I was extremely anxious 鈥 I couldn鈥檛 even sleep I was so scared. Once the Clearing lines were open, I called and explained my situation and what course I wanted to do. The operator was very helpful and ensured I got the information I needed. I was made an offer on the condition that I sent the relevant documentation (proof of results and proof of ID) when prompted. It was that simple, so I didn鈥檛 need to worry. I got an email asking for the documentation the following day 鈥 and the day after that my place was confirmed!

Coming to Beds allowed me to stay closer to home, transfer back to my job at the airport and to join the Bedfordshire Bulls Cheerleading team where I met some great people. Being at Beds has enabled some self-discovery in regards to how I learn and my career prospects. The mental health team has helped so much during the current climate and being closer to home was a blessing in disguise.

  • Talk to your parents, sixth form/college teachers or a trusted adult about your plans 鈥 but ultimately this decision should be yours and yours alone.
  • Do your research 鈥 look at what your options are, research a prospective course and look into student finance, accommodation, the location, facilities and sports, etc. You want to be comfortable whilst you study as you will be living there for the next 3+ years.
  • Don鈥檛 panic, the operators are there to help you. They understand that you may be nervous so will do their best to help you.
  • Join student/applicant chats on Facebook (run by the 天美传媒). They are a great way to get information first hand on what is happening at the 天美传媒.
  • If you are wanting to join a sports team or society, follow them on social media to find out information on try-outs and joining, or even to ask them about what it is like at university.

The 天美传媒鈥檚 Clearing team is here to discuss courses, funding, accommodation, student support and any queries about Beds鈥 different campuses. Give the Clearing Hotline a call today on 0300 3300 073 or apply online 24/7.
