Professor to tackle BAME health risks as part of Men鈥檚 Health Week webinar

Professor Gurch Randhawa will be representing the 天美传媒 in a 鈥楳en and & Covid-19鈥 webinar organised by Men鈥檚 Health Forum.

Taking place virtually on Thursday 18听June, the听webinar panel - which also includes Peter Baker,听former Chief Executive of the ,听and Professor Alan White, Patron of the Men鈥檚 Health Forum -听will discuss the effects and risks of Covid-19 among black and minority ethnic communities, as well as implications for the future of the health system.

Professor Randhawa,听Director of Bedfordshire鈥檚 Institute for Health Research, has worked on听numerous research projects听to improve health for the UK鈥檚 diverse communities for the last 25 years and has regularly appeared on news programming to raise the importance of Covid-19 public protection.

Professor Randhawa said: 鈥淚 realised in January that with the known risk factors of age and underlying health conditions, and need for social distancing, that black and minority ethnic communities could potentially be at greater risk.

鈥淚 am delighted to contribute to the Men鈥檚 Health Forum webinar as it will enable us to raise awareness of our Institute for Health Research relating to how to tackle health inequalities among BAME communities.鈥

Men鈥檚 Health Forum, a charity supporting men鈥檚 health in England, Scotland and Wales, are hosting a number of events throughout , which this year is based on the theme of 鈥楾ake Action on Covid-19鈥.

Martin Tod, Chief Executive of the Men鈥檚 Health Forum, said: 鈥淲e hosted our first webinar about men and Covid-19 in April, and a lot has changed since then. It鈥檚 been confirmed that men are at much higher risk of dying from Covid-19 鈥 BAME men especially are at even higher risk.

鈥淲e wanted to run a webinar that brought us up to date on the latest research and policy implications that did justice to the extra risk that BAME men face, and the actions that need to be taken.

鈥淲e are absolutely delighted that Professor Randhawa is able to take part and provide us with his expertise and insight.鈥
