天美传媒 alumnus Joe Flemons has added to an already impressive list of post-university achievements by being nominated for a prestigious podcast award.

'All Out Attack' - a fantasy football podcast co-created and hosted by Joe and partner Nathan Aspell - has been nominated for Best Fantasy Football podcast in the Football Content Awards 2020, which celebrates the best podcasts, influencers, vloggers and channels in the football world.

studied at Bedfordshire, graduating in 2016, and has gone on to host network shows broadcast on one of the UK鈥檚 leading radio stations, , where the idea for a podcast was born.

Joe said: 鈥淣athan and I always discussed at length our fantasy football teams on a Friday afternoon in the office and kept saying 鈥榳e should make a podcast鈥. It went on like that for 18 months and one day we decided to pitch it to Global (Capital鈥檚 parent company) who were branching out into podcasts 鈥 we knocked up a pilot episode and it鈥檚 been going every week for 18 months now.鈥

combines helpful tips for the ever-growing fantasy football audience with entertaining insights and analysis about the good, the bad and the ugly of players and teams in the Premier League.

The winners of the 2020 will be announced at a ceremony due to be held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London as part of an in-person event in the near future.

Speaking about his nomination, Joe said: 鈥淚t鈥檚 hugely flattering to be nominated for this award because of the sheer amount of top class football content out there. We love doing the podcast and it鈥檚 nice to know there are other people enjoying it too. We have exciting plans for next year as well but I鈥檒l keep those close my chest for now!鈥

While studying Broadcast Journalism on at the 天美传媒鈥檚 Luton campus, Joe was also student manager of the award-winning 听community radio station , mentoring aspiring DJs and assisting with the day-to-day running of the station.

Terry Lee, Radio LaB coordinator and Senior Lecturer in Radio & Audio, said:Everyone at Radio LaB is so proud of Joe鈥檚 nomination. It is no surprise that a podcast series which 听combines his excellent presentation skills with his passion for football is what he has been recognised for 鈥 as a Broadcast Journalism student Joe was always keen to incorporate football into the audio he created for the radio station.鈥

As someone who also hosts his own successful podcast series, A and Primrose & Terry In The Shed, 听he continued: 鈥淏eing a podcaster myself, I understand how gratified Joe must feel in creating and producing a product for a specific audience that has gained traction, acclaim and downloads.鈥

Podcasting has seen a huge growth in the past number of years, and Joe believes students should give creating podcasts a try while they are still learning.

Joe said: 鈥淣ow more than ever I would encourage students to give podcasting a try. If you have a passion but aren鈥檛 sure if someone else would listen, ask yourself, 鈥榳ould I listen to this?鈥 If you would, that鈥檚 reason enough to give it a go.鈥

Terry Lee agrees that the influence of podcasting is increasing:

Podcasting is a growing and distinct movement, one that we are increasingly incorporating as part of our Radio & Audio teaching at the 天美传媒. Indeed, 鈥楽ports Podcasting鈥 is even a new unit for students who join our new 鈥楽ports TV & Radio BA鈥 course this September 鈥 so in the near future we hope to showcase even more award-nominated podcasters and graduates like Joe.

Joe鈥檚 successes have not been limited to the world of audio. He now also presents Match Day Live on the 5th Stand App, an in-studio football show covering matches of his boyhood team, Chelsea.

Joe said: 鈥淚 dreamed of captaining Chelsea in an FA Cup final at Wembley but anchoring the Match Day Live show comes pretty close. I鈥檝e also learned so much working alongside some of the biggest names in the business at Capital FM.

"It鈥檚 been a real challenge to balance everything going on this year but I鈥檓 in a very fortunate situation and I really appreciate how lucky I am. I鈥檝e felt truly lucky being able to speak to people on a weekly basis and give them a bit of a distraction from the real world the last few months. I鈥檓 finding more and more ways to test myself as a broadcaster and I鈥檒l keep doing that until people get bored of me!"
