Leading researchers from the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ are being featured in the first of a new Beds People miniseries as part of a collaboration between IES and community radio station, Radio LaB.

Gordon Brady, Senior Business Partnerships Manager at the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½â€™s Innovation and Enterprise Service (IES), conducted the first collection of interviews for this special series with Professor Gurch Randhawa, Dr Paul Sant, Dr Ingo Frommholz and Professor Dayou Li.

The first four academics – who are involved in a number of research-based projects, including Computer Science and Informatics, Health and Engineering – have been handpicked for the Beds People miniseries to help promote some of the key work which has been successfully facilitated by IES before and during lockdown.

Boasting nine specialist Research Institutes, Bedfordshire is home to world-leading research with direct societal, economic and cultural impact.

It’s also hoped that this chance to ‘Meet the Researchers’ will be an informal but informative way of introducing the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½â€™s community and listeners to some of the staff whose research has made a real impact in the wider world.

Discussing the idea behind the collaborative miniseries, a spokesperson from IES said:

We wanted to share the outstanding research that our academics are involved with, making sure organisations know that we are here to help and that our research can enhance their productivity and make an impact both regionally and nationally. Our academics are real people with real passions about their fields, so we thought this collaboration with Radio LaB would be a great way to make some noise about that!

The segment is being aired daily by Radio LaB – the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½â€™s award-winning radio station – and will be available to listen-back online via

Monday 27thÌýJuly – Professor Gurch Randhawa

Tuesday 28thÌýJuly – Dr Paul Sant

Wednesday 29thÌýJuly – Dr IngoÌýFrommholz
