Residents urged to attend free dance event at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½
Wed 21 February, 2018Residents are being urged to get involved in a new arts and health research project launching at the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½’s Bedford campus on 8 March.
Generations Dancing is the latest in the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½’s Beds Talks series, designed to bring together the public with researchers and practitioners on topics of mutual interest.
The project brings together school children and older people living in sheltered housing, with professional artists to produce a new intergenerational performance and exhibition.
Rachel Farrer, Lecturer in Dance at the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½, said: “It is great to be getting together different groups from the Bedford community and creating opportunities for them to engage with us.
“This will be one of the first research projects examining intergenerational arts practice in the UK in relation to wellbeing, quality of life and citizenship. We are excited to see the work participants produce and the impact the experience has on them.”
Marie Taylor, Chief Executive of Bedford Citizens Housing Association, added: “It’s great that residents can get involved in such an exciting project. The interaction between older and younger people is something the Association is interested in and we look forward to finding out the results of this innovative and interesting project.”
The two main schools involved are Goldington Academy and Castle Newnham School.
Dance teacher at Goldington Academy Sam Mahoney said: “Goldington Academy prides itself on being part of the community and the Generations Dancing project is an excellent opportunity for us to reach out further and get involved with local residents. We hope that this project not only develops our students' passion for dance, but that they also benefit from the experience and wisdom of an older generation.”
The free event takes place at the Bedford campus Gateway building from 2pm until 4pm.
