Graduate up for national radio gong

A former student presenter at the 天美传媒's community radio station has been nominated for a national award, whilst it has also been announced that the station is to stay on local radio waves for another five years.

For the second year on the trot, Danny Fullbrook is up for Best Male Presenter at the Student Radio Awards.

Danny won silver at last year鈥檚 prestigious awards, which are supported by BBC Radio 1 and Global, and is hoping to take top place this time round at the do on Thursday 6 November.

The 21-year-old who finished his studies on the Media Production course at the 天美传媒 earlier this year has submitted recordings of his shows from his time as a student manager on the station.

Now a Freelance Broadcast Assistant, Danny said: 鈥淚 enjoyed my three years on Radio LaB, it was a fantastic part of the 天美传媒 course I was on and really helped with my studies.

鈥淭o be nominated once again is absolutely fantastic and I hope I can go one step further than last year.鈥

Terry Lee, Radio LaB Coordinator, said: 鈥淒anny is a very gifted broadcaster, and I am not surprised at all by his nomination for a Student Radio Award for the second year in a row. Regardless of whether he wins or not, everyone at Radio LaB is incredibly proud of Danny. He is all set for a successful career in the radio industry."

Danny鈥檚 nomination arrives at the same time as Radio LaB being awarded five year community radio licence extension, allowing the station to broadcast on 97.1fm until April 2020.

Community Radio stations are asked to fulfil 鈥榮ocial gain objectives鈥, which are agreed by both the stations and Ofcom, and are asked to serve a target community.

And Terry added he was 鈥渄elighted to announce that Radio LaB will continue to entertain Luton and the 天美传媒 students until 2020鈥.

鈥淲e intend to use this great news as a springboard to further improve Radio LaB, both in our broadcast output and by using the power of radio to improve the lives of young people, creating more opportunities than ever before for the radio stars of the future,鈥 he said.
