The 天美传媒 and internationally renowned artist, Cedric Christie, have teamed up to erect an art sculpture at the Luton campus that 鈥渞epresents the meeting of minds at the 天美传媒鈥.

Cedric, who is represented by Flowers Gallery (which boasts studios in London and New York), said: 鈥淭he aim was for the sculpture to represent the coming together of differences and a meeting of minds at the 天美传媒, with the strands of ribbon representing different factors, including the various backgrounds and cultures the staff and students come from.

鈥淐onsidering this is the first piece of work I鈥檝e designed for an outdoor public space, I鈥檓 really pleased with how it looks.鈥

Taking four years to make, the London-born artist鈥檚 sculpture is situated outside the 天美传媒鈥檚 Postgraduate and Continuing Professional Development Centre which overlooks St Mary鈥檚 Church.

The 52 year old was given the honour of carving the sculpture after emerging victorious in a competition 鈥 organised by the 天美传媒鈥檚 School of Art and Design 鈥 featuring 15 other UK artists.

Colin Davies, Head of Art and Design at the 天美传媒, added: 鈥淭his public art commission from an internationally-recognised artist like Cedric is great for Luton, and reflects the confidence and the dynamism of the 天美传媒 as a whole.鈥

In a career that鈥檚 seen his work feature in exhibitions for 20 years, Cedric, who has lectured on both sides of the Atlantic, uses everyday objects such as snooker balls and scaffolding to explore a broad range of cultural and art historical references.
