Joel Samuels

Visiting Lecturer

Joel SamuelsI am a qualified lecturer in Post-Compulsory Education and have over 20 years of experience in the aviation and tourism industries. I have worked for Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, TUI and other independent hospitality organisations and NGOs. I am delighted to be part of the academic team at the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ and deliver on-campus seminars in Aviation Law and Aviation and Airport Management.

I began my aviation training pathway in the RAF Air Cadets and progressed as an NCO Sergeant and Staff Instructor teaching aviation theory, airmanship, principles of flight and navigation. I joined the airline business before going to university. I later chose a degree in broadcast media in preparation of an era of digital skills. I use this degree now in producing content, alongside synchronous and asynchronous online teaching.

Now, I combine my specialist industry knowledge and passion for aviation and travel as an instructor and educator. I am familiar with working with international adults teaching English language at all levels. If you are in the classroom or working remotely, I have the capacity to blend your learning to best suit your style and pathway.

It is clear the industry is facing a dramatic contraction currently. The way we fly is going to change forever with global environmental responsibilities and changing social and professional behaviours. I am looking forward to working with you, future aviation leaders, so we can experiment, explore and critically analyse the aviation world, and wider social and professional practices. I have a vast network of aviators and innovators you may access through my LinkedIn page.

If there is an adventure to be had, I’m first up. I’ve done some exciting stunts including paragliding in Nepal and the French Alps, gliding, sailing around the Mediterranean and flying over the Grand Canyon.
