My PhD project consists of a series of studies which compare the experience of participants who view a crime as a staged live event, on video or in VR. Participants sense of presence, emotions, physiological responses and recall are compared to see if VR can offer a method for eyewitness memory research which is closer to the real-world experience than video, while retaining reliability and control.

Health professionals and individuals with symptoms of C-PTSD will be interviewed to gage their experiences of the interventions offered thus far and how well these interventions work. This will provide raw experiential data that will contribute to the research into CPTSD which has declined somewhat over the years (Lewis, et al, 2021), whilst recommending future guidelines in preparation for the introduction of the ICD-11 in health care settings.

My research will draw from and triangulate the current theories within the literature on meaningful physical activity, physical literacy, and human flourishing. It hypothesises that if researchers can source the meaning-making behind how we move (physical), connect (social), think (cognitive) and feel (affective) about movement and physical activity, they may be able utilise meaningful attachments and schemas to build and develop physical literacy and therefore human flourishing, using a strengths based approach.

This PhD aims to examine how gender and ethnicity may influence perceptions of victimisation for a range of crime types. In an attempt to provide a comprehensive understanding, the project will be split into three studies examining perceptions of stereotypical victims to crime types and how victim characteristics influence sentencing.

My study looks into the experiences of people who show symptoms of Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) to understand the connection between problematic/excessive gaming, stress, and mental health. Unlike most studies that use quantitative approaches, this research uses a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews.

The aim of my research is to explore the relevance of stress and coping to the expedition experience and consider the significance of these processes to help understand the meaningfulness of these journeys. A qualitative methodology is used to generate rich, ecologically valid information to consider how stress is perceived by participants and how the appraisal of coping capacities is influenced emotion, behaviour and cognition.
