Course Coordinator Specialist Community Public Health Nursing Health Visiting

Kirstie Allen

I joined the School of Healthcare Practice in October 2019 from a clinical leadership position within Children's Public Health Nursing Services. I qualified as a Children's Nurse in 2012 in Manchester and worked in a variety of paediatric inpatient settings in the North West and South East including paediatric acute wards, assessment units, trauma and emergency care, surgical and neonatal environments. In 2015 I moved from the hospital setting into the community and completed by Specialist Community Public Health Nursing qualification specialising in Health Visiting in 2016.

My Health Visiting clinical career afforded me a number of different roles. I developed a passion for infant feeding, early relationships and attachment theory whilst practicing in neonatal care and as a result in 2016 I progressed to an Infant Feeding Co-ordinator position for the local Health Visiting service and Children's Centres, leading implementation of the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative. During this time I was also trained as a Solihull Approach trainer with a keen interest in reciprocity in parent-child relationships. In 2018 I progressed into a Team Lead position and led a School Nursing Service followed by an integrated 0-19 team, supporting the rest of the Senior Leadership Team in the transition to an integrated Health Visiting and School Nursing model prior to leaving to pursue an academic career.

At the 天美传媒 my teaching commitments span the developmental levels of nursing education, from supporting delivery of the Nursing Associate and Foundation programmes to acting as Course Coordinator for the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing course in Health Visiting. My future direction centres around the development of the Foundation Year programme for Healthcare Practice at the 天美传媒 and supporting the delivery of the Children and Young People's Nursing programmes.
