Edel Clare

Senior Lecturer in Midwifery

I began my healthcare journey by studying Nursing at Kings College London, where I graduated with a qualification in adult nursing. I worked as an orthopaedic and trauma nurse in the city, where I had the opportunity to teach and mentor junior members of the team. As my skills developed, I also had the privilege of being a guest speaker at conferences, which fostered my love of teaching and learning. Mentoring students became one of my favourite roles as a Registered Nurse and Midwife. I studied a BSc in Midwifery at York ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ which was a great experience, York is a beautiful city with so much to offer.

I was inspired to return to academia as a Midwifery Lecturer at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ because of the interdependence of clinical practice, research, and education in healthcare. This role allows me to continue making a positive impact on people's lives, but in a different way as an educator of future midwives.

Throughout my 25-year career as a Registered Midwife in both Urban and Rural settings, I continuously extended my clinical skills and qualifications in Research and Management. I was awarded a Fellowship through the AHSN to undertake my MSc studies in "Evidenced Based Healthcare" at Oxford ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½, where my research project focused on caring for women in the community who have sustained 1st and 2nd degree tears. I am thrilled to have secured the post of Lecturer in Midwifery (Education) at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½, where I can continue to make a difference in the lives of both my students and their future patients.
