Debbie Buck

Senior Lecturer in Advanced Clinical Practice

I have worked In the Mental Health Care sector for 38 years and have developed my skills in a variety of roles and settings. For the last four years I have been supporting the development of an Advanced Clinical Practitioner strategy and coordinating its roll out and delivery within a mental health trust. Through this I developed a keen interest in the development of nursing skills for myself and others. Leading by example, I qualified as a non-medical prescriber in Mental Health in 2004 and have worked as the Lead for Non-medical prescribing for several years.

I have designed and undertaken teaching both face to face and virtually and enjoy developing programs for different grades in an interactive and progressive way. I understand that people learn in very different ways and I try to adapt programs to meet individual learning styles. I encourage all grades of staff to review their practice and development in nursing to enable them to expand their skills, allowing them to meet the changing needs of their clients.

I am passionate about service user involvement, taking the time to listen to their journeys and understanding the impact that service delivery can have on their recovery, allows us to develop a better service and a more compassionate NHS.

I was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the New Year’s Honours List 2021 for my work in retention of nursing staff over the previous 3 years, developing a warehouse for PPE and setting up a distribution system for local inpatient services and training trainers to roll out essential learning relating to COVID.
