Lianna Rohan
BSc Midwifery (Pre-Registration)
What course did you study at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½?
Midwifery (Pre-registration course)
Why did you choose to study that particular course?
I have always wanted to be a Midwife, even in my GSCE Art sketch book when the lesson was about ‘me, myself and I’, for my future job I put ‘Midwife’.
What areas of study did you enjoy most and why?
I liked placement the most, because you could put what you learnt in class into practice and it helped it make more sense. In regards to the theory part the teachers are absolutely amazing! They are so down to earth and really get you involved in all of the classes.
What did you like most about the way the course was taught?
I liked that you were constantly in placement and were not doing blocks of theory and then blocks of placement like other Universities.
Which practical aspects of the course did you enjoy most and why?
I most enjoyed the Placement and putting theory into practice. I also enjoyed the days in the skills lab because when you’re a student you might not encounter certain emergencies in practice, so I liked that you were able to practice and get experience with models.
What did you think of the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ facilities?
The facilities are very good! The skills lab is new and the library is 24 hours, so it’s very convenient.
How did this course prepare you for employment?
Each year I was encouraged to become more independent in practice so it gave me a lot of confidence and prepares you for the workplace.
What skills did you learn as a result of your studies at the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½?
I will have learnt all the skills needed to be a midwife.
What career path have you taken since finishing your course?
I am currently still studying but hope to become a midwife in the future.
What are you doing now? Who is your employer?
At present I am finishing my dissertation and about to apply for my first postgraduate job during a pandemic.
Would you recommend this course to others?
Definitely! Especially now that students are able to apply for a grant to help them.
