Bethan Coles
Teaching Practice Co-ordinator in PE and ITE Secondary Phase Leader
I became a Physical Education Teacher in 2010 when I graduated from Leeds Metropolitan ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ with a 1st Class BA Hons degree in Secondary Physical Education with QTS.
From September 2010 to August 2021, I worked as a PE teacher at a secondary school in Northamptonshire, teaching across the age range of ability, as well as taking on key leadership roles during this time such as the Head of Sixth form, Assistant Principal and Specialist Leader for Education in ITT.
I was the Teacher Training Lead across the school, covering ITT, ECT, RQT and CPD programmes. I also had whole school responsibilities for teaching and learning and evidence-informed practice that supported the very best student outcomes and experiences.
As an Assistant Principal I was centrally involved in setting up a teacher training satellite hub in partnership with the Grand Union Teacher Training Partnership (GUTP) SCITT programme and was the lead teacher for this, acting as both a PE Mentor, Tutor and ITT Coordinator.
I was also centrally involved in designing and launching the PE ITT programme with the GUTP. Other higher education experiences include Associate Tutor work at the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ of Northampton launching and delivering the PhD Uni Club Project and marking ITT Master’s modules for the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ of Leicester.
I joined the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ as a Teaching Practice Co-ordinator in Physical Education in September 2021 of which I am teaching on a variety of units across the BA (Hons) Physical Education (Secondary) (with QTS) course. I am also taking up the roles of admission tutors for the course and ITE Secondary Phase Leader. I love seeing our students in action and trying to inspire the next generation of Physical Education teachers.
I am physically active and enjoy playing for a local ladies cricket team as well as running half marathons for charity including completing the London Marathon in 2017.
