Jonathan South
Senior Lecturer in Policing
I am a retired Police Officer having served with Bedfordshire Police. I was fortunate to have experienced core functions of response, investigative and preventative policing. The last roles I had involved developing intelligence systems within Domestic Abuse and Neighbourhood Policing departments before moving on to a central Intelligence office developing serious crime packages.
Since retiring from Bedfordshire Police I have held a number of positions within education. I worked with young people caught up in the Youth Justice system and taught and supported learning in Secondary Education and Further Education. I have lectured at undergraduate level since 2015 on different degrees and at different Universities.
I lead a team of retired police officers to deliver both a PSRB regulated course and a non-PSRB course. I am responsible for partnership engagement, annual mapping and partner QA compliance activity. Within the university I also have a position of Faculty Employability Lead to assess and develop the mapping and embedding of key employability skills, graduate outcomes and competencies, as well as UN SDG's as part of the Career Powered Education Strategy. Wider roles involved research activity on the work of a VRU and other co-written academic publications.
I am an external examiner for a large university on their DHEP course (detective and community). I sit on panels advising other HEI's on how to develop their own PEQF routes and have been a critical friend for their validation processes, I have helped 3 other HEI's develop their own policing and investigations based degrees. I also sit on a Conduct and Scrutiny panel for a large Police force advising on conduct, regulatory compliance, case management and service recovery.
