Nicola Latimer

I have a Master鈥檚 in Applied Linguistics and a PhD in Language Assessment; I studied for both at the 天美传媒. In the past, I have taught English as a second language in a range of contexts and worked as the Language Centre Manager supporting the university鈥檚 international students with the development of their English Language skills from 2009-2012. I have also taught on the Masters in Applied Linguistics at Queen Mary 天美传媒 London. I started working part-time at CRELLA in 2014 whilst also studying for my PhD. I run the CRELLA research seminar programme and lead a range of research projects related to tests such as IELTS and Aptis. CRELLA offers a really supportive work environment with excellent mentoring from colleagues with a wide range of skills and experience.


I research the teaching and assessment of language skills, especially reading, writing and listening; accommodations for dyslexia in language assessment often using technologies such as eye-tracking and keystroke logging as research tools.


I am currently a member of the International Language Testing Association JEDI task force. In the past, I have server on the committee of the . I have acted as a reviewer for several journals such as and . I am currently editing a special issue on reading and eye-tracking for the


I welcome proposals for supervision from postgraduate research students in all aspects of language teaching and the assessment of reading, writing or listening. I am interested in the role of technology in language teaching and assessment, and how we can better accommodate students with special needs such as dyslexia.
